I am very much on the outskirts of the DWD discourse which is where I want to be. I have seen some stuff floating around recently and I have read a few articles and want to remind everyone that Shia Labeouf is an abuser. He is manipulating this situation to help his comeback to Hollywood and it’s working- which is terrifying. Think critically and don’t trust what he is saying because you have a vendetta against Olivia Wilde. And for those of you who don’t know, Shia Labeouf also has a new movie coming out. Quite convenient all this is coming out now, no?

Aurors / Husbands 🌸

Tumblr quality sucks so be sure to zoom in on Draco’s freckles! :3

I started this art last year as a gift for @sitp-recs’s birthday but unfortunately irl stuff happened and I wasn’t able to finish it on time. But since it’s Liv’s 2 year anniversary this month I reckoned it’s the perfect time to finally finish and post this.

Liv, I’m going to sound like a broken record here, but I’m so glad for your friendship and to know someone as generous and kind as you. I’m sorry this was months late 🙈 but please know that this was created with all my love 💗

I haven’t seen it mentioned on here yet, so I’ll do it: the met gala is organized by vogue, which is owned by condé nast. Workers at CN announced a union in march, which management has refused to recognize. they’re saying a lot of underpaid labor goes into tonight’s event. you can learn more and find a petition link to support the union here.

Hi Ralph--Do you have any advice for dealing with all of the sexism and misogyny in the fandom? I feel like almost every day I run into a sexist post. I try to curate my dash, but it's just really fucking annoying when you see horribly sexist things said by young women who claim to be feminists, you know? Even more annoying is that these posts are then read and internalized by other women. It's all just very frustrating and upsetting, and I'm finding it hard to celebrate the joys of fandom :(

"

dogsliampaynedoesntinstagram:

So I don’t have any answers for this. There are two basic answers - the first is the obvious: postblock, unfollow and block. It’s shitty, but you have to be very selective for your dash not to be a sea of misogyny. (Also occasionally choosing a particularly shitty post and blocking everyone who reblogged or liked it is quite a satisfying htings to do).

My other advice is to name what you see, at least sometimes. Don’t let views that are hateful and uphold existing structures of power just fester inside you. Sometimes rage against how terrible what people are saying is. Lots of truly terrible opinions sit in fandom as if they’re a perfectly reasonable thing to think and it’s often really good to disrupt that illusion.

And if you don’t mind, I’m going to take advantage of this anon to do just that. Because I am so tired of the misogynist dynamic around the way so many fans talk about Harry and Olivia and I want to name it.

What has seemed to me deeply cynical, without any interest in political principles, is the way fans have criticised Olivia and only Olivia’s feminism. And then responded to anyone pointing out their misogyny, by saying ‘it’s not misogyny to hate on women if they’re doing something wrong.’

I disagree with Olivia’s politics a lot. If I talked about her often, then I would include those disagreements. But that’s very different, from people who don’t talk much about politics, very closely examining a woman’s politics and criticising her, and not doing the same to men around her.

And what makes the misogynist double standards very obvious is that there’s a very easy test for this. If the criticisms of Olivia’s feminism aren’t based on misogynist double-standards, then those making them would be able to point to the posts where they criticise Harry in the same way as they criticise Olivia.

Because that’s what is absolutely mindblowing hypocritical to me about the response. In fandom discussion of Olivia that mentions 'white feminism’, they’re not discussing her in context of PoC, or any other form of feminism. They’re talking about her in the context of a white man, who occasionally makes references to girl power, but has never even explicitly talked about feminism. Who systematically discriminates against women and PoC in his employment. Who wanted MARGARET FUCKING THATCHER to rest in peace! It’s ridiculous for people who are fans of Harry to criticise anyone else for white feminism. Because Harry isn’t even at white feminism - he’s white watered down girl power.

There are two reasonably serious political points I want to make here. The first is that using feminism as a stick to beat other women with, and only other women and not hold men to the same standards, is fucked up. It shouldn’t be endorsed or normalised. This sort of piss-taking approach to politics undermines any fight for liberation.

And the other is someone took the meme of Eric Andre talking to Mel B and made it about Olivia Wilde. In it they suggested, without any evidence, that Olivia Wilde had forced Harry to pretend to date them. And that’s not even the worse thing about the meme.

Because those of you who know the meme, know the original question was 'does Margaret Thatcher have girl power?’ I think it would be bad enough to use a meme about the horrific politics of Margaret Thatcher to portray a rich white man that they’ve decided is a victim. But it’s not just any rich white man, it’s specificially Harry 'RIP Baroness Thatcher .x’ Styles.

That use of the meme is incredibly cavailer to the millions of lives in the UK and around the world ended and forever harmed by Thatcher and her policies. I can’t imagine clearer indication how much fandom discourse around Olivia and her politics doesn’t care about politics, and instead just see it as a game that allows them to pretend there’s some righteousness to hating someone they’ve decided to blame for a situation their fave has decided to be part of.

I will never get over the rank hypocrisy and contempt for milliions of people’s oppression that is required to present Harry Styles as the victim in an Eric Andre Thatcher meme.

quicksilvermaid:

Harry came home at 2am on day three of the binge. Draco was in nothing but his pants, a fluffy blanket around his shoulders and a joint in hand.

Harry glanced at the telly. ‘Still Discovery then?’

‘A snail can sleep for three years,’ Draco said in response.

Harry groaned at the thought of that bliss as he got a beer and slumped down beside Draco on the couch, stretching his legs out in front of him, feet on the coffee table. For once Draco didn’t whinge at him to move them. They watched penguins together in silence, broken only by Draco’s random facts. Harry had counted fifteen.

‘Did you know a shrimp’s heart is in its head?’ Draco said, not looking at him.

Harry stared, nonplussed. Sixteen.

'I wonder if shrimps are Slytherins,’ Draco mused, taking another pull from the joint and blowing smoke into the air. 'Sometimes I feel like my heart and my head are in one place.’

'Do you?’ Harry asked, amused. He was rarely home for this fuzzy, soft version of Draco.

Draco scowled across at him. 'Be serious, Potter.’

Harry held up his hands, trying unsuccessfully to keep the smile off his face.

Draco huffed and pulled the blanket up around his neck, turning his eyes to the newest penguin exploits.

'Albatrosses mate for life,’ he said, after a long pause.

Harry turned, slowly, to look at Draco again. His cheeks were pink and he was staring determinedly at the screen.

'Do they?’ Harry said, softly. The thoughts he’d wanted to say for months gathered in his throat.

'I wonder if Albatrosses are Gryffindors, then?’

Draco turned to him. He rolled his eyes, but there was something soft about his face. Fond.

'Yes,’ he said into the dimness. 'I rather think they are.’
